Benito Mussolini letter signed, dated 21 September 1927 when Mussolini served as Italian Prime Minister and also Duce of Fascism. At this time Mussolini was dismantling all checks on his power and recently survived two assassination attempts on his life. Upon ''Il Capo del Governo'' stationery, Mussolini writes to his Finance Minister Giuseppe Volpi, chastising displays of wealth during a time of fiscal austerity. He writes, ''The budget conditions demand that the greatest thrift be observed in all services and that expenditures be limited to the strictly indispensable. / This applies particularly to everything having to do with the automobiles at the service of Their Excellencies the Ministers and Undersecretaries of State and the other high officials of the State, for whom it is particularly necessary to observe a line of rigid economy, refraining from overly frequent updates, the acquisition of new types of vehicles, and other innovations. / The example should come from the top. / Mussolini''. Single page letter on card-style stationery measures 8'' x 10.5''. Small punch hole and ink blot next to Mussolini's signature; overall very good plus condition.
