World-famous Italian opera singer Enrico Caruso hand-drawn sketch of a woman in profile. Ink and watercolor piece is likely one of Caruso's opera contemporaries in character, or possibly an acquaintance. Best known for his signature role as Canio in ''Pagliacci,'' Caruso sang as a tenor at the New York Metropolitan Opera and counted Italian, German and French operas among his repertoire. He was also an accomplished caricature artist, as demonstrated in this sketch, measuring 4.5'' x 8.75''. Taped to a mat to an overall size of 5.5'' x 9.75''. Pencil notation to top edge reads ''Gennaro de Santis''. Light scattered staining, else near fine. From a larger collection of art by Caruso.
