Rare 1940 campaign button from Republican Wendell Willkie's Presidential campaign, humorously mocking supporters of the New Deal. Before Alfred E. Neuman was tapped as the face of ''Mad'' magazine, he was used in the late 19th and early 20th centuries as a genial idiot, whose support you didn't want. In this instance, his name is ''I.M.A. SIMP'', slang for sucker (i.e., Homer Simpson). Button measures 1.25'' in diameter, with the Chicago Union bug logo on the curl and stamped on the back. In unusually near fine condition with no damage to the celluloid. One of the most collectible political buttons of the 20th century.
