Abraham Lincoln magic lantern slide, taken on 3 June 1860 by Alexander Hesler, who was commissioned by the Republican party to photograph their Presidential nominee. Image reportedly captures Lincoln's likeness better than any other; of it, Lincoln remarked, ''That looks better and expresses me better than any I have ever seen'', and Lincoln's law partner William Herndon said of it, ''There is the peculiar curve of the lower lip, the lone mole on the right cheek, and a pose of the head so essentially Lincolnian; no other artist has ever caught it.'' Slide measures 4'' x 3.25'' including casing. ''New York State Education Department'' is printed on one side, with a paper label on the other side reading in part, ''Photographed from life by Alexander Hesler...From reproduced negative in collection of F.H. Meserve, New York. (1913)''. Slide is in very good plus condition, with excellent contrast.
