Rare broadside honoring Abraham Lincoln, featuring 100 unique photographs of the 16th President, highlighted by memorable passages from Lincoln's speeches. Interestingly, in Lincoln's day, he was reported in the press as being quite ugly -- excessively thin and ''homely'' -- although that changed beginning in 1861, when he began to be described as better looking than anticipated; ''not so ugly as his portraits'' was a popular comment. Here, one can see portraits of him as a young man as well as those later in his Presidency. Entitled ''The Centenary of Abraham Lincoln's Birth'', broadside was printed in 1909 on the 100th anniversary of Lincoln's birth, with photos taken from the collection of Osborn H. Oldroyd, whose copyright appears at bottom. Measures 28'' x 35''. A few scratches to poster, with tape repair to verso, small spots of dampstaining to lower margin, and light wear including a .5'' closed tear to right side. Overall in very good condition.
