George Campbell, 8th Duke of Argyll signed cabinet photo. Matte sepia photo taken at photographers Elliot & Fry's London studio is nicely inscribed on the verso, ''For Mr. Edward. W. Bok, Brooklyn, N.Y. Your obedient servant Argyll / Argyll Lodge, Kensington April 1882.'' The Scotsman was a writer on science and religion, notably as a leading opponent of Darwinism. Cabinet card measures 4.25'' x 6.5''. Light creasing in one corner; overall very good condition. Original envelope included.
