The holy grail of NCAA basketball, the 1983 championship ring belonging to player Harold Thompson of North Carolina State, the Cinderella team that improbably won the championship in a buzzer-beating final against the University of Houston. Against the odds, NC State entered the NCAA tournament after defeating Michael Jordan's UNC team in the ACC tournament, and rose from Cinderella status to winning the entire tournament; in fact, it was this 1983 NC State team where the concept of a ''Cinderella'' team (the underdog winning) sprung into popular lore. Throughout the 1983 tournament, the NC State Wolfpack were nicknamed the ''Cardiac Pack'' because of the close finishes, and the final game was no exception with a buzzer-beating dunk ending the game 54-52 in NC's favor. 10 karat gold Jostens ring belongs to Harold Thompson, the crowd-favorite forward and defensive stopper of the NC State Wolfpack. ''NC STATE'' borders a diamond at center, set in red, with ''1983 NCAA BASKETBALL CHAMPIONS'' encircling. Size 13 ring has the ''Jostens 10K'' hallmark and ''Harold Thompson #30'' engraved in the band. Housed in original Jostens box with wraparound band labeled with Thompson's name. In near fine condition with a few small nicks to bottom of band. With an LOA from Harold Thompson.
