Oscar statuette awarded to Ronald Colman for "Best Actor" for the 1947 film, "A Double Life." This "A Double Life" Oscar is one of the last to be publicly available, as award recipients were forbidden to sell their Oscars after 1950. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences presented the award to Coleman on 20 March 1948 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. English actor Colman co-starred with Signe Hasso and Edmond O'Brien in this film noir about an actor whose mind becomes affected by the character he portrays. Two engraved plaques are placed on opposite sides of the pedestal. One reads, "Academy of / Motion Picture / Arts and Sciences / First Award / 1947". The other reads, "Academy First Award / To / Ronald Colman / For His Performance in / 'A Double Life'". The figure and film reel, composed of gold-plated britannium measuring 10.25" tall, top the pedestal, bringing the total height to 13.25". The pedestal's diameter measures 5" and the award weighs 6 pounds. Moderate tarnishing to statuette and chipping to base; small tears and edge wear to green felt. Overall in very good condition.
