George Washington funeral medallion from 1799, worn during the first president's funeral procession in January 1800. Made by E.J. Perkins, an engraver for the U.S. Mint. Front of medallion has a bust of Washington surrounded by the words, ''HE IS IN GLORY, THE WORLD IN TEARS.'' An urn is depicted to verso of the 1'' medallion, with a peach-colored ribbon tied through a small hole at top. Light scratching to surface and some discoloration on verso. Very good condition.
