Section of pine wood from the White House, removed during its 1927 renovation under President Coolidge. This wood block was originally built into the roof of the White House during the James Madison administration, after British troops burned the Executive Mansion during the War of 1812. Descriptive label attached to wood reads in part, ''Section of Timber Removed From the White House After 112 Years of Service''. Includes pamphlet with expanded description and protective box. Measures 4'' x 2.25'' x 2.25''. Minor scratching, else near fine.
