June 2025 Sally Ride Auction Ends Thursday, June 26th, 5pm Pacific
Collection of Sally Ride's personally owned stamps, as well as artwork and ephemera related to the U.S. stamp honoring Sally Ride issued on 23 May 2018. Ride was an avid stamp collector; her passion began as a young girl as she collected Olympics stamps, and segued into a lifelong pursuit focused on stamps honoring space flight. Lot includes:
1-12) Ten sheets of the stamps issued by the Republic of Mali in 1983 honoring Sally Ride as the first U.S. woman to fly into space. Stamps were personally owned by Ride. Each sheet measures 7.75'' square. A few sheets partially affixed to each other, overall very good plus condition.
13) Sally Ride's personally owned ''First Man on the Moon'' Apollo 11 stamps issued by the United States. Block of four stamps measures 5'' x 2.5''. Near fine.
14) Stamp honoring John Glenn's Mercury mission aboard Friendship 7 as the first manned orbital spaceflight, personally owned by Sally Ride. Issued in 1974 by the Republic of Maldives. Near fine.
15-16) Set of two artworks depicting the U.S. stamp honoring Sally Ride, a commemorative forever stamp issued 23 May 2018 that marked the first stamp depicting an LGBT person. Artwork is matted and framed with four of the actual stamps and a plaque regarding its first day of issue. Each framed artwork measures 15.25'' x 21.25''. Near fine condition.
17) Program and folder from the First Day of Issue Dedication Ceremony, which took place in La Jolla, California on 23 May 2018. Program measures 4.5'' x 8'', tucked into the folder measuring 5.5'' x 8.5''. Accompanied by original envelope Near fine.
