Beautiful seashell booklet signed by Princess Elizabeth, the Grand Duchess of Russia, who was known for her kindness and generosity in the Royal monarchy at the turn of the century. After her husband, Czar Nicholas II was killed by anarchist's bomb in 1905, Elizabeth famously forgave the assassin and unsuccessfully lobbied for his release. She then became a nun and focused on charitable works for the poor -- until the Bolsheviks took control and killed her in 1918 simply for being of Royal blood (her grandmother was Queen Victoria and her brother-in-law was Tsar Nicholas II). This booklet, highlighting an English coastal town, was given by Elizabeth to her sister, the Princess Irene of Prussia, as a 1890-91 New Year's gift. Elizabeth inscribes the booklet with her nickname Ella, ''A bright New Year to you darling Irene from your loving sister / Ella / 1890 1891''. Exquisite 12 page booklet has a raised and colored cover (mimicking the shape of a seashell), 6 colorful illustrations and is bound with a gold-colored ribbon. Booklet measures 4'' x 4.5''. In near fine condition.
