Scarce nine piece miniature porcelain breakfast service set painted by Pierre-Auguste Renoir and personally owned by the great artist. Most pieces have gilt accents and complete set includes: coffee cup measuring .5'' in diameter at its circular base and 1.25'' in height; cream jug measuring .25'' in diameter at its circular base and .5'' in height; sugar bowl with handles measuring .25'' in diameter at its circular base and .25'' in height; two saucers, each .75'' in diameter and .25'' in height; cup with handle measuring approximately .5'' in diameter at its circular top and .25'' in height; two small pots with no covers, each approximately .5'' diameter at their circular base and .5'' in height; oval tray with handles measuring 3.75'' x .25'' in height. Provenance is from the Pierre Auguste Renoir Personal Artifacts and Archives Collection, consigned to Hantman's in 2005 by Renoir's grandson, Paul Renoir, whose father inherited Renoir's home, Les Collettes, and its contents. In addition, Renoir's porcelain is mentioned in his agent Ambroise Vollard's book, ''La Vie et l'Oeuvre de Pierre-Auguste Renoir,'' the excerpt reading, ''...I saw on the sideboard shelf of the dining room, a small coffee service and two candlesticks made out of porcelain, decorated by hand...'Those are the only pieces I still have from my old career as a porcelain decorator', Renoir told me...'' Also referenced in ''Renoir in Time'' by noted French art dealer Paul Durand-Ruel. Very good condition overall.
