Olympic relay torch used in the 2006 Winter Olympics. The Torch Relay tradition began in 1928, and transports a spark from the parent flame in Olympia, Greece to the host city in time for the opening ceremonies, in this case Torino. Designed and manufactured by Pininfarina, the torch is meant to resemble a ski pole, an alpenstock and a mountain peak with the 12 holes representing the Mole Antonelliana. The torch bears the Torino logo with the Olympic rings and is made of aluminum, steel, copper and techno-polymers, with a special surface paint that withstands high temperatures. Measures 30'' and weighs 4 lbs. 2 oz. Blackening around top from use and some marking to handle, overall very good condition.
