Michael Jackson's 1984 MTV Video Music "Moonman" Award for his "Thriller" music video in the category of "Viewer's Choice". This VMA was awarded to Jackson at MTV's first ever annual award ceremony, held at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Jackson's "Thriller" was a hit at the premiere award show, also winning "Best Choreography" and "Best Overall Performance". Trophy by Manhattan Design is a sculpture-in-the-round, patterned after the channel's iconic moonman bumper that aired at the top of the hour, produced by animation studio Buzzco Associates. Moonman's flag displays an MTV logo and pole twirls freely in his hand, its end resting in a depression in the base. Award measures 12" in total height. Base diameter measures 5". Weighs 7 pounds, 11 ounces. Lifting to plaque at edges from base, else fine. With provenance from Julien's.
