Original portrait watercolor of Abraham Lincoln by French artist Pierre Morand, an expatriate who sketched and painted Lincoln in Washington during the latter years of the Civil War. Morand even sketched the last known portrait of Lincoln post-mortem. Watercolor of Lincoln is datelined ''Washington / June 1864'', showing Lincoln in top hat and formal wear. Measures 2.625'' x 5.625'' mounted to sheet measuring 8.5'' x 10.625'' reading at bottom right, ''Drawn from life by Pierre Morand''. Loose period mat measures 10.5'' x 14.5''.

Second watercolor of Massachusetts Senator and abolitionist Charles Sumner reads along lower margin, ''Charles Sumner Washg'n 1864''. Sumner's portrait measures 2.625'' x 5.5''. A few small abrasions to Sumner's portrait at top, and small spots to Lincoln's portrait at top. Overall in very good to near fine condition. With original printed catalog sleeve from the Parke-Bernet Galleries in 1952, noted as lot 488. Rare.
