Robert Oppenheimer letter signed, dated 19 October 1955 shortly after the Cold War security hearing that investigated whether Oppenheimer had ties to the Soviet Union, some ten years after he headed the Manhattan Project that developed the first atomic bomb. On his stationery as Director of The Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton, Oppenheimer graciously thanks a Mrs. Wagner for writing, signed ''Robert Oppenheimer''. Letter measures 5.5'' x 6.5'', with original envelope postmarked from Princeton on 21 October 1955. Single fold to letter and light toning, overall near fine.
