Beatrix Potter autograph letter signed ''Beatrix Potter'', written from her home at 2 Bolton Gardens on 23 December 1907, with interesting content regarding writing to ''unknown children'' and her misgivings about killing a pig. She writes to Millie Warne, the sister of Potter's fiance and publisher Norman Warne, who died in 1905.

Letter reads in full, ''My dear Millie, What a very nice Christmas card - present you have sent me! It is beautifully made and I shall like using (but not on this dirty table) - I have given up my Christmas presents as a bad job. I will get jigsaws later on. I had just sent off your label too soon, before I got your letter & written 'honey' on it, I was not sure when you were going away & of course honey will keep, so I am rather afraid you will not taste the pig, unless you get a chop off Alice's! I was rather undone with the [?] yesterday, the poor little cherub had such a sweet smile, but in other respects it was disagreeable. It is rather a shame to kill them so young; one has no sentimental feeling about a large bacon pig. I have made drawings of it and a plaster model.

It is a great change in the weather, I rather liked the dry frost, but we had a yellow fog here on Tuesday. My throat has seemed really better the last day or two, I have got something to paint it with inside, it was only relaxed ans swelled up, I have not felt ill. I hope you will have a pleasant Christmas at [?]; I shall devote mine to answering an accumulation of unknown children, I cannot get them done before. I wonder if you have taken any holly, you must not think I had forgotten it, but there is so little satisfaction in buying a bit in the shops, I would rather get a bit later on when I could get it. I remain with love yrs aff / Beatrix Potter / The Salvation Army band played so beautifully one night; it reminded me of the choir singing at the corner of [?]''. Four page letter on bifolium, card-style stationery measures 4'' x 6'' folded. Mild toning and single fold, overall very good plus condition.
