Federico Garcia Lorca signed drawing, done on the title page of his poetry collection, ''Canciones''. Madrid: Revista de Occidente, 1929 stated second edition. Lorca died just seven years after this edition was published, assassinated by pro-Nationalist forces in Spain at the beginning of the Spanish Civil War. The exquisite drawing on the title page evokes the surreal style prominent in Spain at the time; in fact, Salvador Dali was one of Lorca's close friends. Lorca draws a tree, the roots of which segue into Lorca's name, with a face incorporating into the design, whose tears become bark on the tree and whose hair and hands form the leaves and branches. Done in ink with yellow and blue shading. Book measures 5.75'' x 8.25'', rebound in quarter leather with gilt tooling on spine and four raised bands. Some foxing to interior, otherwise near fine condition.
