Forty-five survivors of the U.S.S. Indianapolis sign this photo of the great battleship that was torpedoed by Japan during WWII. On 30 July 1945, the U.S.S. Indianapolis sunk after being hit, with almost 1,000 crewmen left at sea for four days battling dehydration, saltwater poisoning and most notably, relentless shark attacks. Of the original 1,196 crewman aboard the ship, only 317 survived. Photo is signed by 45 of these survivors, obtained at several of their reunions. Glossy photo measures 10'' x 8''. Near fine.
