Early 1922 runner-up medal from the Football Association Challenge Cup, awarded to player Frank Jefferis of Preston North End. 9kt gold medal has personalized etching which reads, ''P.N.E / F. JEFFERIS / 1922'', circumscribed by ''CHALLENGE CUP / RUNNERS UP''. Verso of the round medal features a crest in relief with ''The Football Association'' beneath. Top of medal has attached design and ring attached to loop, complete in its original presentation box. Played on 22 April 1922 at Stamford Bridge in Chelsea, this game was known as ''The Battle of the Roses'' as it involved one team from Yorkshire (Huddersfield Town) and one from Lancashire (Preston North End). Ending in a 1-0 victory by Huddersfield Town, this game is famous for being the last F.A. Cup Final match before the opening of Wembley Stadium. Lot also includes 4 additional items: a reproduced team photo postcard, an original 1922 issue of ''All Sports'' magazine which includes a 2-page centerfold with a picture of Frank Jefferis, and 2 cigarette cards featuring photos of Jefferis and the Preston North End team. Medal comes housed in original red box with velvet lining. Medal measures 1'' in diameter and weighs 10g. Near fine condition.
