Two exquisite pieces of fine china from the FDR White House, of the original design commissioned by First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. The design, criticized at the time for being too closely associated with the Roosevelt family, features a navy blue rim with gilt stars, lined by a band of roses bearing the Roosevelt family crest, designed to symbolize the establishment of the New Deal. The underside of both pieces features the green watermark of the Lenox company, one of the United States' only producers of ''bone china'', which is distinguished for its white luminosity and chip resistance. Large dinner plate measures 11.25'' with the plate number ''1326/J479B'' written in gold to the underside. Small saucer measures 6.25'' and shows the number ''2023/J479B'' in gold to the underside. Fine.
