Two autograph letters signed by Harper Lee, along with a holiday gift from her, consisting of a John Singer Sargent book and a pair of earnings. The notes to ''Doris'' and ''Bill'' are both affixed to the book's interior and signed ''Nelle'', Lee's first name. Written within artistic cards, notes contain holiday greetings and affection: ''...If there were an aristocracy in this country, you'd head the list. Since there is none, you'll have to be content with what you are: aristocrats of the spirit...'' Lot also consists of a thoughtful gift by Lee to her friend Doris Leapard: a pair of beautiful jeweled leopard earrings from Brighton Collectibles. In the note Lee expresses that she had tried to find Leopard earrings elsewhere ''...Tiffany don't have none of these critters (only penguins and Owls)...'' The notes each measure 5'' x 7''. The 256pp. book measures 11'' x 13.25'' and is published by Abbeville Press, Inc.: New York: 1982. The crystal and black earrings each measure 0.5'' x 1'' and come in a pink leopard designed Brighton pouch. All items are in fine condition.
