Lot of sixteen books from Eleanor Roosevelt's personal collection, four of which are inscribed to her. Wilson's Secretary of the Navy Josephus Daniels inscribes the front free endpaper of his ''Shirt-Sleeve Diplomat'', published by University of North Carolina Press: Chapel Hill: 1947. He dedicates the volume, ''To / Eleanor Roosevelt / with cherished memories / and affectionate esteem of the author / Josephus Daniels / Raleigh, N.C. May 18 1947''. He writes a similar sentiment upon the front free endpaper of his 1946 book by the same publisher, ''The Wilson Era, Years of War and After, 1917-1923''. Autograph dedication reads, ''To / Eleanor Roosevelt / with cherished memories and / sincere affection of the author / Josephus Daniels / Raleigh, N.C. May 18 1946''. Both tomes are bound in blue cloth boards with gilt lettering and design, measuring 6.5'' x 9.5''. New Deal documentary filmmaker Pare Lorentz also dedicates a pair of books by William Spohn Baker: ''Washington After The Revolution, 1784-1799'', J.B. Lippincott Company: Philadelphia: 1898 and ''Itinerary of General Washington From June 15 1775 to December 23 1783'', same publisher, 1892. The front free endpapers are inscribed, ''For Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt / Christmas, 1956 / Pare Lorentz''. Bound in blue cloth boards with top edges gilt, measuring 6.75'' x 9.75''. Light wear to exterior, with cracking to interior front hinge of the 1898 volume. Four dedicated volumes are accompanied by a dozen other books from Roosevelt's bookcase, most of which are first editions in hardcover related to her husband's presidency such as the FDR biography ''The Triumph'' and ''Franklin D. Roosevelt, A Career in Progressive Democracy''. Lot shows light wear, else near fine. With provenance from Christie's.
