John F. Kennedy typed note signed, dated 22 January 1954 on U.S. Senate stationery. Note is addressed to Dr. Frieda Por whose nephew, Leslie Oscar Lenart, was ensnared in a fascinating case of mistaken identity and denied entry into the United States as a result. Lenart unfortunately shared the same name with a Hungarian communist who was inciting revolutionary activity in South America at the height of the Cold War, making him persona non grata. With the U.S. government confusing the two men, Dr. Por's nephew was therefore blocked from immigrating to the United States as a radical agitator. Kennedy was able to facilitate his entry, however, with a cache of documents included here such as Mr. Lenart's Naturalization Certificate, numerous letters to Kennedy's office and more. Note measures 4'' x 5.25''. Fold and staple puncture, overall near fine condition. With University Archives COA.
