John F. Kennedy typed letter signed, dated 10 April 1954 on U.S. Senate stationery. Letter is addressed to Dr. Frieda Por whose nephew, Leslie Oscar Lenart, was ensnared in a fascinating case of mistaken identity and denied entry into the United States as a result. Lenart unfortunately shared the same name with a Hungarian communist who was inciting revolutionary activity in South America at the height of the Cold War, making him persona non grata. With the U.S. government confusing the two men, Dr. Por's nephew was therefore blocked from immigrating to the United States as a radical agitator.

Letter reads, ''With further references to the case of your nephew, Leslie Oscar Lenart, I have been advised that it is presently pending in the House Committee on the Judiciary. / Although it is not possible to state at this time just when final action will be taken on this matter, I have been assured that every effort is being exerted to complete same by the end of this session. In the event this is not possible, I have been further assured it will be acted upon the early part of next session...Sincerely yours, [signed] John Kennedy''. Single page measures 8'' x 10.5''. Folds, overall near fine condition. With University Archives COA.
