John F. Kennedy typed letter signed, dated 8 January 1954 on U.S. Senate stationery. Letter is addressed to Dr. Frieda Por whose nephew, Leslie Oscar Lenart, was ensnared in a fascinating case of mistaken identity and denied entry into the United States as a result. Lenart unfortunately shared the same name with a Hungarian communist who was inciting revolutionary activity in South America at the height of the Cold War, making him persona non grata. With the U.S. government confusing the two men, Dr. Por's nephew was therefore blocked from immigrating to the United States as a radical agitator.

Letter reads in part, ''...regarding your further interest in the case of your nephew, Leslie Oscar Lenart. / I want you to know that I am now submitting the additional information which you have made available to me to the appropriate authorities for their further consideration. Immediately upon receipt of a further report, I shall again get in touch with you...Sincerely yours, [signed] John Kennedy''. Single page measures 8'' x 10.5''. Folds, overall near fine.
