Incredible wide-ranging collection of official NASA photos, signed by various astronauts who participated in some of the greatest missions in space aviation's history. Half-matte NASA photos are all 8'' x 10'' and include: (1) Signed photo by Ellison Onizuka, the first Asian-American to travel to space, first with the Space Shuttle Discovery, and second on the Space Shuttle Challenger, which ended in tragedy as the shuttle burst apart 73 seconds after the launch of its tenth mission. Signed and inscribed, ''To John Stockmeir – Best Wishes! / Ellison Onizuka'' in black ink. (2) Ronald McNair signed photo. McNair was one of the 35 applicants accepted into NASA's incredibly competitive space program in 1978. He flew on STS-41-B aboard Challenger in February 1984, as a mission specialist becoming the second African American to fly in space. In 1986, he too was killed in the Challenger disaster. Photo is signed and inscribed, ''To Bobby Stockmeir / Best wishes / Ronald E. McNair'' in black ink. (3) Michael J. Smith signed photo. Smith was pilot of the Space Shuttle Challenger on his first mission to space. His voice was the last to be heard on the shuttle's voice recorder. Here, Smith signs and inscribes, ''Bob, Best Wishes / Mike Smith'' in black marker. (4) Dick Scobee signed photo. Scobee successfully piloted the 1984 Challenger mission STS-41-C, which successfully deployed one satellite and repaired another. In 1986, he served as commander of the tragic Challenger mission. Signed and inscribed, ''Bob / Very Best Wishes / Dick Scobee'' in black marker. (5) Judith Resnik signed photo. Resnik was the second American female astronaut to go to space, serving as a mission specialist on the 1984 Discovery mission. She too was aboard Challenger in 1986. Here, Resnik signs and inscribes, ''Best wishes to Bobby! / Judy Resnik'' in black ink. (6) Signed photo by Sonny Carter, who logged 120 hours in space aboard the Discovery in 1989 along with the STS-33 crew, in a mission that carried Department of Defense payloads. Signed and inscribed, ''Bobby -- all the best from one Georgian to another / Sonny Carter'' in black ink. (7) S. David Griggs photo signed and inscribed ''S. David Riggs'' in black ink. (8) Sally Ride signed photo. Ride remains the youngest American to be launched into space and was the first American woman to enter into low Earth orbit in 1983. Here, Ride signs her name, ''Sally K. Ride'' in black ink. (9) Bruce McCandless signed photo, depicting McCandless moving solo through space. Signed and inscribed, ''To Bobby Stockmeir - With best wishes / Bruce McCandless / STS 11 / 41-B''. Collection includes five additional 10'' x 8'' signed photos of various mission crews. Includes, (1) STS-7 Challenger group photo signed by the complete prime crew, ''To Bobby / Best Wishes!'' / ''Sally Ride'', ''Robert Crippen'', ''Frederick Hauck'', ''John Fabian'', and ''Norman Thagard''. (2) STS-8 Challenger group photo signed by four of the five crew members with Richard Truly's signature absent: ''Daniel Brandenstein'', ''Dale Gardner'', ''William Thornton'' and ''Guion Bluford''. (3) Space Shuttle 51-A group photo signed by the complete crew, ''Dale Gardner'', ''Dave Walker'', ''Anna Lee Fisher'', ''Joseph Allen'' and ''Rick Hauck''. (4) Space Shuttle Discovery 41-D group photo signed by the complete crew: ''Charles Walker'', ''Judith Resnik'', ''Mike Mullane'', ''Steven Hawley'', ''Henry Hartsfield'', and ''Michael Coats''. (5) Space Shuttle Challenger 41-B group photo signed by the complete crew, ''Robert Stewart'', ''Ronald McNair'', ''Bruce McCandless'', ''Vance Brand'' and ''Robert Gibson''. Additionally includes a wide variety of official NASA-related memorabilia, including six photo negatives of the Challenger's final moments from the investigation into the disaster, 9 various mission patches, a stamp album filled with 30 commemorative stamps, more than 130 official NASA photos of astronauts and crews from a variety of missions, and more. Overall an exceptional collection in near fine condition.
