Hunter S. Thompson autograph letter twice-signed: ''HS Thompson'' in address panel and ''HST'' at conclusion of letter. Dated 23 June, Thompson writes on an aerogram postmarked 26 June 1964 from Sonoma, California to his childhood friend Paul Semonin. Letter reads in part, ''Dear X / My plans are in limbo - chaos here, many debts, car dying, planning to move but destination unknown...Unlike you revolutionaries, I can't get a dole from the Ford Foundation. If no further word comes, call me on arrival NYC...The fatbellies are on me for real. 'The People' are a myth. They are their own enemies - life is a bread riot...I'll try for a contact anywhere but Louisville. I have cut that cord for good. HST''. Thompson then pens a postscript to the verso, underneath the address panel where he writes his name and address in Glen Ellen, California. Letter measures 7.25'' x 12''. Chipping on side from opening (with tape repair over stamp) and light toning. Very good condition.
