Eugene Debs letter signed, dated 26 September 1924 shortly after his release from prison for sedition, and also, ironically, when he was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. Composed upon the stationery of his brother, Theodore Debs, the Socialist Party icon writes to a Dr. Woodcock, a leader of the Socialist Party in Scranton, PA. The flowery letter reads in part, ''It is with rare pleasure indeed that I have just read the beautiful letter which came from you this morning...I need not hear from you by letter to receive the vibrations that come from your heart to mine and that keep alive and beautiful the brotherly relation between us...Your devoted friend and admirer [signed] Eugene V. Debs''. Single page measures 8.5'' x 11''. In good condition with brittle paper starting to separate along folds. Tape to one of the folds upon verso. Accompanied by a photo of Dr. Woodcock from the mid-1950s.
