Iconic Captain Kangaroo screen-worn suit from the red jacket's debut in 1971. Keeshan's lovable character was dressed in a navy blue suit from the show's creation in 1955 until 1971, when he introduced this, the uniform he would wear almost exclusively for the remainder of his hit children's series' thirty-year run. Four-piece ensemble comprises the famous red jacket, grey slacks, brown leather belt and black leather belt: (1) Fire-engine red jacket featuring the kangaroo-pouch pockets that inspired the Captain's moniker. From the depths of the pockets the grandfatherly Captain would produce such fun surprises as carrots for Bunny Rabbit. Single-breasted jacket was custom made for Keeshan by John F. Kennedy's tailor, Chipp of New York & New Haven. Chipp label is sewn into an interior pocket and is typed ''Robert Keeshan / 4/2/71''. Features brass buttons, charcoal grey lining and white braided cord trim along the edges of lapels and pockets. Approximately size 40. Dulling to white trim and buttons, with apparent coffee stain to left lapel, else near fine; (2) Grey wool trousers also by Chipp are an approximate size 36 x 29. With Keeshan's name and date typed to label as 3 August 1979. Near fine. (3-4) Brown and black leather belts in size 38-40 with initials ''CK'' written to verso. Near fine.
