Cal Abrams signed and hand-annotated typed poem based on a version of "Casey at the Bat" called "Ode to Branch Rickey," written by Chuck Connors. Possibly also signed by Conners. Abrams appears to have personalized Connors' poem for himself, using a blue felt tip pen to sign the top edge and place strikethroughs where Connors' name appears and substituting his own name. Comically, it ends with a complaint about freezing his "Jewish ass" off in Montreal. Abrams and Connors both played baseball for the Dodgers in the late 1940's. Connors, known for his humor as well as "the art of repertoire," writes an ode about his hope to play "in dear old Ebbetts Field". Abrams was later inducted into the Jewish American Sports Hall of Fame. 8.5" x 11" three-page document has been stapled. Minor soiling, else very good.
