Cabinet card signed by Alfred Dreyfus, the center of the storm in the Dreyfus Affair. In 1894, French Army Captain Dreyfus was scapegoated for treason for ostensibly spying for Germany, and sentenced to life imprisonment on Devil's Island. Due to the heroic efforts of Lt. Col. Georges Picquart, journalist Emile Zola and others, however, Dreyfus was ultimately exonerated in a scandal that exposed widespread anti-semitism in the French military and government, almost toppling the Third French Republic. Cabinet card measures 4.25'' x 6.5'', on Aaron Gerschel's photographer's mount. Signed ''A. Dreyfus''. Near fine condition.
