Albert Einstein typed letter signed, writing to photographer Sanford "Sandy" Roth. Dated 17 June 1953 on Einstein's personal embossed stationery from Princeton, Einstein writes, "Thank you for your letter and the pictures. I liked best the one of the head only and should be grateful if you would send me a few prints of it - if possible in a smaller size…[signed] A. Einstein".

Roth famously captured a series of photographs of Einstein in his office, appearing relaxed and smiling. From "Portraits of the Fifties: The Photographs of Sanford Roth", Roth's wife Beulah recounts that their meeting was "one of the greatest moments of [Roth's] life…Before they began, I was told, Professor Einstein cautioned Sandy to take no more than six pictures. Three hours passed as [Ashley] Montagu and Einstein had a lengthy discussion about nuclear power and the world…Finally Einstein turned to Sandy and said, 'Roth, you are a naughty boy. You took more than six!' 'Yes, I did,' said Sandy, 'but Professor, you should know that in order to get six good ones I had to take one hundred.'" Einstein replied, "You are right, Roth. It figures mathematically."

Letter measures 8.5" x 11". Folds and uniform toning with mounting remnants on verso. Overall in very good condition.
