A special grouping from one of the most iconic television shows in American history, the much beloved ''The Andy Griffith Show'' that illuminated TV sets throughout the 1960s. All items were worn by Don Knotts as Deputy Sheriff Barney Fife, with a letter by a CBS employee confirming their screen-use, mentioning that items were worn ''in different episodes''. Lot includes:
1) Tan shirt with blue and yellow ''Deputy Mayberry'' patch on right arm. Western Costume Co. tag on bottom reads ''ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW'' and ''DON KNOTTS'' in type. The Western Costume Co. was, of course, the preeminent wardrobe company supplying Hollywood with clothing in the 20th century. No size listed. Small holes on left breast where badge would have been pinned, overall very good plus condition.
2) Star-shaped silver badge worn by Knotts on his shirt, reading ''DEPUTY / MAYBERRY'' on front. Reverse of badge is engraved ''CBS PROP DEPT''. Measures 2.75'' across. Light wear, overall very good.
3) Silver badge worn by Knotts on his cap, reading ''MAYBERRY'' on front. Reverse of badge is engraved ''CBS PROP'' with a fabric swatch typed ''Don Knotts'' glued on. Measures 2.5'' x 2.5''. Light wear, overall very good.
4) Cap worn by Knotts, made by Mid City Uniform Cap Co., a well known maker of caps for the military and law enforcement at the time. Size 7 1/4. Minor discoloration on top, overall very good.
5) Clip-on black tie to complete the ensemble, made by Uniform Cravats.
6) Original typed letter of provenance dated July 1974 from a CBS employee by the name of Rydell, who likely worked in the CBS props department. Letter is addressed to a Stewart, detailing the list of items from ''The Andy Griffith Show'' that were given to him. There is mention of two hats being worn ''in different episodes.''
A rare ensemble from a touchstone show of the Baby Boom generation, and one of the top TV shows of all time.
