Laura LiPuma signed "Purple Rain" LP album cover, with LiPuma also handwriting the history of how she and Prince collaborated in designing his most famous album. Penned in silver felt-tip, LiPuma writes in full: "Prince and I met on the video set of 'When Doves Cry.' He wanted me to see the hand painted backdrop on set and told me to use it on the dust sleeve. The Purple Rain movie poster would be the front cover and I was to come up with othe[r] design elements to make it an exciting package. I noticed there were flowers on the floor from one of the video set ups and immediately thought a colorful, clean photo of flowers would be a nice addition. We picked the purple he wanted to use (PMS 272) and he said he wanted a different font for each song title on the back. Later I realized I needed more visuals and then I noticed a small red symbol on the gas tank of his motorcycle. It was the male/female symbols combined. He liked it so much it later became his name. A week later we met and finalized the album package design. He was very quiet but I could tell he dug it. / Laura LiPuma / 'Purple Rain' album jacket designer". A touchstone of the 1980s, "Purple Rain" is ranked #8 of the greatest albums of all time by "Rolling Stone" magazine. Near fine condition. With an additional LOA signed by LiPuma.
