Stephen King signed ''Night Shift,'' Doubleday & Co.: Garden City: 1978. King inscribes the front free endpaper in blue ink, in full: ''For Ken Nelson, with best wishes / Stephen King / May 19, 1978''. This is the first book to comprise King's short stories, 20 in all, including ''Children of the Corn'' and four previously unpublished works. The ''Carrie'' author breaks with his personal tradition for the first time with this book by addressing his readers directly in a foreword. Runs 336pp. Bound in bright red-orange paper boards with black faux-leather spine and gilt lettering. Measures 6'' x 8.5''. Near fine. With dustjacket featuring a photo of the bespectacled thirty year-old author. Very good, save for toning.
