Spider-Man costume designed for, but not used in the original 1977 film "Spider-Man". It was subsequently featured as the hero costume in promotional advertising for the 1985 film "Spider-Man", to be directed by Tobe Hooper but which never came to fruition. The 1977 "Spider-Man" was the first live-action film adaptation of the Marvel hero, laying the groundwork for one of the most successful superhero franchises in Hollywood history. Premiering in 1977, the film also served as the pilot episode of the 1977-79 hit television show "The Amazing Spider-Man". With an LOA on Marvel Comics Group letterhead from Scott Leva, chosen to play Peter Parker in the 1985 film. Leva writes that "the Spider-Man Costume…is infact an original costume originally designed for use on the 'SPIDER-MAN' TV series for CBS in 1977." Red and blue lycra-blend suit measures approximately 68" long and 16" across the chest, expanding with the stretch fabric. Soles of feet are leather. Discoloration to portions of the blue fabric, but overall in very good condition with no holes or tearing.
