Shel Silverstein signed early edition of his first book of children's poetry, ''Where the Sidewalk Ends''. New York: HarperCollins, 1974. In fine black felt-tip, Silverstein draws a detailed illustration on the flyleaf of a tree that morphs into a person's hand holding the letter ''T'' to spell Tony; an excited man flees the scene with scissors launched in the air that were used to cut the string holding the letters together. Silverstein writes, ''Idle Hands Are the Devil's Playgound'' next to his signature, ''With Love / Shel Silverstein''. Early edition shows 1974 on the copyright page but without First Edition noted. Measures 7'' x 9''. Bound in publisher's brown boards. Light discoloration to boards and previous owner's inscription to front free endpaper. Very good condition. One of the more detailed and unique drawings by Silverstein.
