Very scarce china bowl custom-ordered by Thomas Jefferson when he served as Secretary of State under George Washington. Blue-rimmed bowl with gilt accents has gilt "J" at center, inside a shield bearing a knight's head decoration. Measures 6.375" in diameter. This Jefferson china is very scarce, with pieces housed at the Cincinnati Art Museum and Monticello. A few small chips along rim, and one .25" v-shaped chip at 2:00 position, and hairline crack in bowl, overall very good condition.
