Philip K. Dick typed letter signed, with very rare content regarding the film ''Blade Runner''; it is, in fact the only known letter by Dick commenting on the iconic sci-fi movie starring Harrison Ford and directed by Ridley Scott, as he passed away before the film was released. Dated 2 October 1981, Dick writes in part, ''...Yes, BLADE RUNNER is going to be great; the excellent screenplay assures it. They started out with such a poor screenplay that I thought the project doomed, but their shooting script is simply superb; it moved me to tears...''
Dick also writes about the ''Valis'' trilogy, almost certainly referring to his 1982 novel ''The Transmigration of Timothy Archer''. He writes, ''...I'm including an addendum to my recent novel VALIS; it explains itself, sort of. I'm not sure how seriously you should take the enclosed Xeroxed pages, or for that matter how seriously I should take them. Anyhow here they are, and I hope they do not offend you; I have gotten some rather abusive mail in tresponse, so I am a little nervous about it all. I guess if one thinks one has had a vision of the new savior one is going to get a mixed bag of responses upon discussing it...''
With more content, including a humorous reference to himself as being ''approved of by the French intellectuals, but so, too, is Jerry Lewis''. He goes on to vouch for the character of author Fritz Leiber, and explains that ''Fritz has been through some very hard times, Mark; I know him and I know that he lost a wonderful wife, and that will do it to you (God knows it's happened to me often enough!). Anyhow, I hope my response will somewhat restore your faith in mankind...''
Single page letter measures 8.5'' x 11''. Shallow folds, with one through signature, overall near fine condition. With PSA/DNA COA.
