Pair of Sketches by Enrico Caruso of Fellow Opera Singer, Bass Legend Pol Plancon -- Sketched While On a South American Tour Circa 1917

Two sketches drawn by world-famous Italian opera singer Enrico Caruso, unsigned, of fellow operatic legend, French singer Pol Plancon. Best known for his signature role as Canio in ''Pagliacci,'' Caruso was also a pioneer in recorded sound, selling a million records at the dawn of the medium. More obscure was his passion for visual art, particularly caricatures, a medium he became quite accomplished at over his lifetime. Portraits in pencil and red pencil depict Plancon in two perspectives with an exaggerated, pronounced red beard. Portraits are drawn side-by side on a single sheet of Plaza Hotel Buenos Aires stationery. Measures 10.5'' x 6.75''. Minor toning and folds throughout. Portraits are matted in white to an overall size of 10.5'' x 14.5''. Overall very good condition.
