Eleanor Roosevelt typed letter signed as First Lady. Upon White House stationery, she writes to Hildur Coon, a counselor at a Seattle, Washington educational institution. Dated New Year's Day of 1945, it reads in part: ''...It was sweet of you to send such a generous box of holly...We had a quiet family Christmas and Joe and Trude spent New Years Eve and New Years with us. we are all delighted that Joe is going to Officer Candidate School and not too far away...Affectionately, [signed] Eleanor Roosevelt''. With original White House envelope. Single-page letter measures 6.25'' x 9.25''. Creasing, else fine.
