Dwight Eisenhower signs: ''DE'' in black marker to a typed letter on his personal gilt-monogrammed White House stationery dated 9 January 1956 that reads: ''...Thanks for your letter regarding the vacancies in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. I am forwarding your recommendation (completely without bias!) to the appropriate people...'' Seats 4 & 5 were vacated when William Orr and Homer Bone assumed senior status. The President appointed Stanley Barnes and Frederick Hamley. Measures 7'' x 10.25''. Light trisecting folds, else near fine.
