Botany pioneer Luther Burbank typed letter signed. He writes two years before his death, dating it 29 March 1924. Upon his personal stationery, letter reads in part: ''Dear Mr. Pomeroy: Your esteemed letter of yesterday just received. I remember Professor Cheney and our happy chat with him some time ago, also the Sunday Herald with article and pictures which are all very pleasing to me and by all means hope to meet him personally for its demonstration. With sincere kind regards to yourself and to our talented friend, Forest Cheney...Faithfully yours, Luther Burbank''. Burbank, inspired by Darwin, cultivated a strain of Russet potato still dominant today. 1pp. measures 5.5'' x 7''. Creasing, else near fine.
