Dwight D. Eisenhower typed letter signed just after he left the Presidency. Dated 8 December 1961 upon his personal stationery, his letter to toy manufacturer David Marx and his wife reads in part: ''...The anthurium and orchid were safely transported to Gettysburg, and I assure you that Mamie was delighted for your thoughtfulness...most of all, I want to tell you how delighted I was to have had such a wonderful visit - short as it was. They tell me that the evening was successful. I knew it would be, seeing how well it started off. My thanks again...[signed] D.E.'' Eisenhower earned the rank of five-star general during WWII, but temporarily relinquished the title to serve as President. Single-page letter measures 7'' x 10.25''. Creasing, else near fine.
