Broadside from the Third English Civil War creating a Thanksgiving holiday. Dated 11 October 1649, the House of Commons declaration reads in part: ''...the Parliament...have though fit, as in duty to God, to set apart a day for publique and solemn Thanksgiving to the Lord...'' Mention is also made of the city of Drogheda, then under siege as part of the Cromwellian conquest of Ireland that year. Parliament ruled under Oliver Cromwell following the English Civil War until 1660, a period of throne-less government called the English Interregnum. Broadside measures 9.5'' x 11.5''. Toning, foxing and irregularly trimmed edges. Mounted to paper to an overall size of 11'' x 18.5''. Very good.
