Civil War broadside issued by King Charles I on 14 June 1642 prohibiting London officials from helping Parliament arm itself. The lengthy power struggle between King Charles and Parliament exploded into the English Civil War, culminating in the dethroning of Charles and the abolition of the monarchy itself in 1648. The order reads in part: ''...if you shall lend any sums of Money toward Ireland...or toward the payment of Our Scots Subjects, we shall take it as an acceptable service at your hands...but if...you shall give or lend any Money, or provide or raise any Horses or Arms towards the raising such a Guard, We shall look upon it as the Raising Force against Us...'' Broadside measures 8.5'' x 13.5''. Mounted to paper to an overall size of 12'' x 18.25''. Foxing and toning. Very good.
