George M. Cohan autograph letter signed. Upon his personal New York stationery, the man behind ''Give My Regards to Broadway'' writes in pencil, in full: ''Dear Dick Hyman, Much as I regret it I won't be able to attend the Banshee luncheon next Thursday, I'm leaving for the country Monday to spend the balance of April and all of May at Monroe [NY] and I'm terribly sorry not [to] be with you all as I had looked forward to it right along. The comic doctor however prescribes the country and the great out doors. My best to all along with my regrets and warm personal regards. Sincerely, George M.'' Cohan was a prolific composer who created such hit show tunes as ''You're a Grand Old Flag'' and ''Yankee Doddle Dandy.'' The Banshee luncheon was also known as the Newspaper Public Convention, held on 26 April 1955. It was attended by artists and entertainers. 1pp. measures 7.25'' x 10.5''.
