Harriet Beecher Stowe and William Cullen Bryant each sign a slip. She, the social activist author of ''Uncle Tom's Cabin'' inscribes the lower half of the slip with a line from Macbeth: ''Hail to thee thane of Cawdor / thou shalt be king hereafter / HB Stowe / Washington April 22, 1856''. William Cullen Bryant, the poet, journalist and ''New York Evening Post'' editor signs his name near the top edge: ''William Cullen Bryant / New York January 10, 1854.'' Slip measures 8'' x 6.5''. Toning, especially to edges, and irregular left edge from album removal, else near fine.
